Our visit to Turkey

From the 21st May until the 26th May 2013 another meeting too place in the context of our latest Comenius partnership. This time two teachers and three students from our school went to Izmir on the Turkish Mediterranean coast.

On Tuesday 21st May we arrived in Izmir airport at around 9PM where we were all warmly greeted. Fredericke, Kassandra and Lurena even received a small welcome gift from their host families, who were most likely happy for the reunion.

On Wednesday we were all very excited to see how it looks in our Partner school and what the learning and school conditions were like there. The classrooms and school desks were quite small; however the school technical equipment had nicely surprised us. And the best part: all of the teachers and students were extremely nice and approachable. After lunch the project work was scheduled. We made a big impression with our handprints as every student had to plant a small tree.

The whole of Thursday was devoted to our project work: all schools gave their presentations and spoke about the subjects ‘Protected Areas’ and ‘Local Landscapes’. For us it was amazing how different the presentations were and what changes could be seen in the different landscapes.

On Friday and Saturday we did many things with our Turkish hosts and the schools and teachers of the partner schools. For example, we visited the ancient site ‘Ephesus’ and also went for a swim in the Mediterranean ocean.

Overall the days were very exciting and busy but also eventful. We were able to gain an insight into the school day in a Turkish school and in the family life of Turkish people. We especially liked the friendliness and warmth of our hosts.
