The 4 headed Comenius delegation team returned from Martinique with many good memories
of an eventful week. In March the Harzer themselves are hosts.
Our teacher Simone Wegner, language assistant Philippa Gleadow and students Celine
Eicke and Dominic Helbing returned to the Harz safe and sound from this visit in
the Caribbean. As part of the syllabus of the Comenius Program – an EU project for
the cooperation of schools – they stayed at the in the French departments of their
partner school Martinique for one week. Under the motto “Landscape as a mirror” the
students had to present their hometown of Ilsenburg to the hosts. For the students
from the Caribbean it was hard to imagine that their guests came from an area where
there was a thick blanket of snow at the time of their departure to Martinique.
“The students mastered their tasks well and even gave very good speeches at a ceremony
marking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Franco-German Treaty of Friendship,”
reported a relieved Simone Wegner.
In March the Ilseburger’s expect their Comenius partners. They will then welcome
guests from Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Turkey, Greece and Martinique
to the Harz. And if there is still snow, their Caribbean guests can build a snowman
for the first time.
